Periphery Synthetic is an interactive musical experience set in the procedurally-generated planetary system of Alpha Periphery. Designed to be a fully accessible game playable without seeing the screen, it invites you to explore unique musical playgrounds, synthesize new abilities, and reveal a mysterious past.
The system of Alpha Periphery is home to a desert planet, an ocean world, and its icy moon. Each of these worlds functions as an interactive track of a musical EP, composed of purely synthesized music and sounds that evolve and react to your input in real-time. The game is fully navigable through sound, using mechanics like echolocation and terrain sonification, and supports screen readers for its menus and in-game information.
You begin your expedition with only a terrain scanner and limited cargo space. By exploring and collecting materials, you can unlock and enhance new abilities, eventually allowing you to command these worlds in every dimension. Using the scanner, you can discover new destinations with hidden structures and artifacts to examine, which together reveal insights into the true purpose of your journey.
With zero combat or risk of death, Periphery Synthetic encourages relaxed experimentation and lingering. It is a game about discovery and atmosphere, where you are free to catch your tenth sunset on Alpha Periphery C or simply wonder what happens when you dive into the water at orbital speeds. You can also toggle off the graphics entirely for a pure audio-only experience.
