Hello everyone, welcome to another VoiceOver tutorial in iOS! Today, I will show you how to navigate VoiceOver using just one finger.
- Learn the Swipe Gesture: Let’s start with the basic swipe gestures. Swipe left to move to the previous item or application, and swipe right to move to the next one. Practice these swipes to familiarize yourself with how navigation works. Note: Some people, especially beginners, tend to touch the screen and move their fingers around, which is not the same as swiping. That's called exploring. For smooth navigation, focus on swiping left and right until you feel comfortable.
- Swipe to Explore the Screen: Once you've mastered the swipe, use the right swipe to move through all the items on the screen. When you reach the end, swipe left to go back. Repeat this several times until you can swipe confidently.
- Select an Application: When you find an application you want to open, double-tap to select it. This means tapping twice quickly. Some beginners tap too slowly, so be sure to practice quick taps.
- Returning to the Home Screen: If you're using an older device with a physical home button, press it to return to the home screen. For newer devices without a home button, check out my previous article on unlocking iPhones and iPads without a home button, which also explains how to navigate back to the home screen. You can find it here.
- Closing Background Apps: For closing apps running in the background, double-click the home button on older devices to open the app switcher. For newer devices, swipe until you hear a high-pitched sound that signals the app switcher (as explained in my previous article). Once in the app switcher, swipe left or right to find the app you want to close. When you've found it, swipe up or down to locate the "Close" option and double-tap to confirm.
I hope this tutorial helps you navigate VoiceOver more confidently. If you have any questions, feel free to comment!
