Final Fantasy VI is a story-driven role-playing game set in a world recovering from the ancient War of the Magi. This conflict caused magic to vanish, and a thousand years later, humanity relies entirely on machines and technology. However, this balance is disrupted when the Empire discovers a young woman with mysterious powers, sparking a chain of events that could destroy the world.
The game blends fantasy and steampunk elements, featuring airships, mechanical armor, and ancient spells. You will guide a large cast of characters, each with their own distinct backstories, goals, and destinies. The story centers on figures like Terra Branford, a half-human half-Esper controlled by the Empire; Locke Cole, a treasure hunter; the twin rulers of Figaro Castle; and Celes Chere, a defecting Imperial general. Together, they must face Kefka Palazzo, a mad mage threatening existence itself.
Gameplay features classic turn-based combat where you select actions such as attacks, magic, items, or special skills for each party member. A key mechanic is the "Magicite" system, which allows you to customize which spells and summons your characters learn, giving you freedom in how you build your team.

To experience the game with accessibility features, you need to use the "FF6 Screen Reader" mod.

If you are using the unlocked version downloaded from this site, the necessary mod files are already included. Please follow these manual installation steps:
- Download and unzip the file. Inside, you will find two main folders: "FF6 Screen Reader Mod" (containing the mod installer) and "Final Fantasy VI" (containing the game).
- Open the "FF6 Screen Reader Mod" folder and launch `MelonLoader.Installer.exe`.
- In the installer interface, click the "Add Game Manually" button, then navigate to and select the `FINAL FANTASY VI.exe` file located inside the "Final Fantasy VI" folder.
- Once the game file appears in the list, select it. Crucially, you must check the "Enable Nightly builds" box before clicking the "Install" button.
- After installation is complete, open the "Final Fantasy VI" folder. You will see a new folder named "mods". Go back to the "FF6 Screen Reader Mod" folder, copy the file `FFVI_ScreenReader.dll`, and paste it into this "mods" folder.
- Return to the "FF6 Screen Reader Mod" folder once more, copy the two files `Tolk.dll` and `nvdaControllerClient64.dll`, and paste them into the root directory of the "Final Fantasy VI" game (where the `FINAL FANTASY VI.exe` file is located).
- The installation is now complete. You can launch `FINAL FANTASY VI.exe` and enjoy the game.
