As the name suggests, the Translate Advanced is an add-on for NVDA (NonVisual Desktop Access Screen reader) designed to provide translation capabilities. It supports automatic online translation for spoken text, clipboard content, the most recently spoken text, and text from object navigation.

Key Features:

  • Web-like Translation Interface: The add-on includes a user-friendly translation interface similar to popular web-based translation services. Users can translate and listen to text, and even insert the translated text directly into the focused area.
  • Translation Cache: Translate Advanced saves translated text in a cache. This prevents the same text from being translated repeatedly within the same application, improving efficiency. Additionally, you can clear the translation cache for individual applications without manual intervention.
  • Customizable Key Bindings: By default, most actions do not have preset key bindings. Users will need to assign shortcuts manually in the Input gestures menu of NVDA.
  • Integration with NVDA Settings: A dedicated section for this add-on appears under the NVDA Preferences submenu, making it easy to access and configure.

Supported Translation Services:

  • Google Translate: Four connection methods are available.
  • DeepL: The free version is enabled by default. For advanced features, users must obtain their own API keys.
  • LibreTranslate: Requires users to acquire an API key independently.
  • Microsoft Bing Translator: This service is available by default but is not recommended for translating large volumes of text quickly, as temporary restrictions may apply.
  • OpenAI GPT4o-mini: Users must provide their own API keys for this service.

How to Download and Install:

You can install the Translate Advanced add-on through the NVDA Add-on Store or download it directly from its GitHub page.
