Hello everyone,

In this article, I will guide you through the process of extracting native ringtones on Android devices. Every manufacturer has its own distinctive ringtones, and when you upgrade to a new phone, you might want to keep those familiar tunes. Since the default file manager often does not allow this, we will use an application called CX File Explorer to accomplish the task. Please follow the detailed instructions below.

Note: This guide is based on a Samsung Galaxy A55; some steps may vary on other devices. The instructions were developed using Samsung's TalkBack screen reader (version 14.1). Use this method only for personal purposes, as it may involve copyrighted material.

Step 1: Install CX File Explorer

To install CX File Explorer, open the Google Play Store using the following link and follow the on-screen instructions to install the app:

Download CX File Explorer from Google Play

After installation, open the app either by tapping the "Open" button in the Play Store or from your home screen. This app works well with TalkBack and includes built-in features for playing music, videos, editing text, and viewing images.

Step 2: Grant Required Permissions

When you launch the app for the first time, your device will prompt you to grant access to all files. Follow the on-screen instructions to grant full access. This step is essential for accessing and managing the system files needed for extracting ringtones.

Step 3: Enable System Storage View

To access system files, you must enable the display of system storage. Follow these steps:

  1. Tap the "More Options" button (located in the top right corner of CX File Explorer).
  2. Double-tap the "Settings" option.
  3. Locate and enable the "Show system storage" option.
  4. Return to the main interface of the app.

Step 4: Extract the Ringtones

Follow these instructions to extract the native ringtones from your device:

  1. Open CX File Explorer and navigate to the "System" folder to access the system partition.
  2. Tap the "System" folder again to reveal its contents.
  3. Locate and open the "Media" folder.
  4. Within the "Media" folder, find the "Audio" folder. Long-press on the "Audio" folder to select it.
  5. Tap the "Copy" button, usually found in the bottom left corner of the screen.
  6. Return to the main interface and select the "Home" section at the top of the screen.
  7. Navigate to the "Main storage" folder to access your device's internal memory.
  8. Select the folder where you want to paste the copied ringtones.
  9. Tap the "Paste" button and wait until the process is complete.

After pasting, in the "Audio" folder you should see several subfolders:

  • UI: Contains system sound effects such as those for locking/unlocking the screen and charging notifications.
  • Ringtones: Contains the native ringtones.
  • Notifications: Contains notification sounds.

Step 5: Confirm Your Extraction

Once the paste operation is complete, you have successfully extracted the native ringtones from your device. You can now transfer these ringtones to another device if desired.

Conclusion

This guide has explained how to extract native ringtones on an Android device using CX File Explorer. I hope you find this tip useful. Please remember to use this method only for personal purposes and avoid any actions that might violate copyright laws.
